Uni-park Daxing is a 5-story community shopping center located in the south region of Beijing. What sets it apart is the inclusion of a co-living space on the 3-5 floors in the northwest corner, serving as a public place for users to relax and socialize. The three-story-tall space is open to the street through a large glass wall, inviting natural light and creating a sense of openness. The west facade features stepping terraces that form several outdoor activity spaces. Additionally, a rooftop garden can be accessed from the outdoor terraces and the co-living space, providing a green oasis in the heart of the center.
The design of Uni-park Daxing utilizes a steel structure as the main system. The upper floors are overhung by 5 meters above the main entrance, accentuating the sense of arrival. The main facade is composed of stone panels, insulated glass units, and aluminum panels, creating a visually appealing and durable exterior.
With a gross floor area of 93,584.9 square meters and a land area of 17,873.466 square meters, Uni-park Daxing offers ample space for various activities and amenities. The design team, led by AICO and including members such as Jun Zhang, Lujiang Xu, Shuyin Huang, Peihong Wu, Hao Zhang, and Zikang Wu, aimed to soften the boundary between the interior and the surrounding communities. People can freely wander between indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering a rich citizen life in a vibrant community.
The project, which began in April 2019 in Beijing, China, is set to be completed in 2021. Throughout the design process, Daxing Uni-park emphasized the relationship between architecture and the city. The volumetric relationships within the building create a pleasant urban facade, while transparent volumes at key nodes provide a dynamic interface. The traditional isolated prototype of typical shopping malls is transformed into an open, transparent, and attractive urban commercial space.
One of the main challenges faced by the project was attracting young people and families from the surrounding areas, as it is located in the new residential area of Daxing district. To overcome this, the design team focused on creating a variety of public spaces for the residents, connecting the site with the surrounding communities, and establishing Uni-park Daxing as a destination for leisure and social activities.
Uni-park Daxing is a testament to the innovative and practical design approach of AICO. It has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Architecture, Building, and Structure Design category in 2021. This award is a testament to the project's well-designed, practical, and innovative nature, meeting professional and industrial requirements. Uni-park Daxing integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.
